Phil,

This is Greg Trickey from North Richland Hills, Texas Police Department.

I talked to my Professional Standards guy, Keith Bauman, and he said he had emailed you.

I just wanted to follow up and let you know we are an FOP department.  I'm the State Trustee of our lodge (and past president), and I'm on the E-Board for the Texas Labor Council.

We don't have a contract, but we do a kind of "meet and confer" where all benefits and policies go through a "staffing" committee for input/changes/etc.

We do have a lateral pay plan, but we changed up our pay structure, so we aren't sure how that is going to work.  I should know something within a day or two.

Our department is pretty small in comparison to you with only 115 officers.  But, we get our share of action from Fort Worth, so we stay busy enough, but don't get our butts handed to us everyday.

We've got a good reputation as a highly trained department.  We mix it up with aggressive enforcement combined with some community/beat ownership.  It's working out pretty well for us.  The officers are fairly autonomous in solving problems in their beats.

We're switching to 12 hour shifts next month.  We are going with the "Panama" schedule which means you get every other weekend off.  So, a new guy will have 2 weekends a month off and they are three day weekends - Fri/Sat/Sun.  It's supposed to be a pretty good shift and I think it will work out well.

Anyway, if you have a few guys that you think might fit in, have them give me a call.  We have four openings right now, and the "PACT test" has like 6 cities in it, so there should be plenty of positions to go around.  I think we will have another 4 or 5 openings as well if the economy continues to improve this year.

I'd rather you guys didn't have to lay people off, but hopefully we can take the sting off for some of the officers.

I also saw that Dallas, Irving, and Garland are recruiting up there.  They are FOP departments and are real good departments.  Plano PD is not an FOP department, but they are a real good city that pays well.  My cousin works up there for them and he loves it.

 Thanks!
